EnviroSchool - Worm Warren

Everyday our Enviro Agents perform a range of tasks that help keep our school waste sustainable. One of these very important tasks is caring for our tiger worms that live in the 'Worm Warren'.

According to Wikipedia ~ About Our Tiger Worms~
Eisenia fetida, known under various common names such as redworm, brandling worm, panfish worm, trout worm, tiger worm, red wiggler worm, red californian earth worm, is a species of earthworm adapted to decaying organic material. These worms thrive in rotting vegetationcompost, and manure
Eisenia fetida worms are used for vermicomposting. They are native to Europe, but have been introduced (both intentionally and unintentionally) to every other continent except Antarctica.

Every day our agents collect all the food scrapes that are suitable for worms. Our worms can not eat citrus, bread or meat. Once all of the worm buckets have been emptied they head down to the worm baths where the vermicomposting occurs.

End of Term 3

It has been a very busy year at Melville and our Facebook and Classdojo pages have been very busy.  Unfortunately our class blog has been let slide and its time to get it going again.  This is a post to let everyone know that we are coming back.
